When God Breaks Your Heart

By: Don Pax

In the silence of prayers unanswered,
I ask myself; how long will this darkness stay?
Every morning is a new day
Of questions resounding in empty air.

What is it that you want from me?
I have given you my all.
Each breath I take, each day I live,
Still feels so far away from what ought to be.

Have I let you down in some way?
Did I miss the sign you tried to show?
Or does faith have to go like this?
Through valleys where we become lost?

Return our hope, our light, and our life.
The simple joys that used to be.
This emptiness, this anguish,
How much longer must we cope?

You fashioned my heart with loving kindness,
Then let it break on the ground.
I gather the fragment I’ve found,
And question whether you’re there at all.
