Voices Drown in Silence

With regards to the attacks on Africans within South Africa, the AU is seemingly drifting away from its core mandate. It seems to be turning from an active body to a ceremonial one, more like a spectacle on our screens, remembering what was achieved in the past, instead of acting to ensure security and development.
Holy Child Senior High School in Ghana has a famous saying, which is “Actions, not words.” It is apparent that throughout the continent, we give much attention to showing off our traditional attires and speaking foreign languages because we believe these are marks of classiness, and forget about the needs of our people.
Our leaders, like ourselves, also get lost in less important issues. They talk, they discuss and pose, and then when the voice of the weak is heard, all is heard is silence. It was a decade ago that I referred to African leaders as dogs that bark but do not bite. The truth is the situation remains the same.
African countries need more than talks; they need leaders that take actions. They need leaders who understand the meaning of responsibility, wearing kente attires and also accepting the duties associated with them.
