The Living Library of Faith

“Never judge a book by its cover, but by its content” is a truly apt phrase. When you encounter someone with in-depth knowledge, it is not by their appearance but by their speech. You can only measure their worth when they speak. It is always a delight when you encounter such a mind.
One of these encounters that happened recently left many in awe. The man I met was such a memorable moment. At first glance, one might think his frailty would prevent him from imparting knowledge to others, but that was not the case. This is a man who has built a legacy for himself. He has carved a name for himself in his field of study, so much so that you cannot talk about the church in Ghana without mentioning his name. In matters of morals, theology and religion, he commands respect.
I sat in a week-long session where he shared knowledge on certain teachings of the Catholic Church, and his articulation showed how well-versed he is. His posture and responses to questions were a pleasure to watch. It turned out that many admire him for his knowledge and passion. Others have called him the Pope Benedict XVI of our time.
It was no coincidence that in his youth he was appointed Head of Department at the country’s leading university. It was no accident that he was appointed the first chairperson of the Otumfuo Educational Fund and President of the Ghana Bishops’ Conference, among others. He is a man who has paid his dues to the church in Ghana and globally.
