The Peasant Beast’s Quest

By Mawuena Quist
I perceive time running but who’s chasing it?
I lose count even when I stand gazing at it
And I have been here standing for so long,
I don’t remember what I came here for.

A little bit of love, a lot of broken hearts.
All perpetual smiles but the latter a facade.
Strong standards and alluring goals are planned.
But they are too high they keep hitting the bars.

I fought those who love me for what I love.
And when I’m wounded, same remove the fluff.
An outsider’s solicitude gets me suspicious.
Because the intentions of the well-wishers are not conspicuous.

Again, many broken hearts, but family love suffices.
Unanticipating disappointment is its price.
And I am poor in spirit but rich in pride.
Impervious? Oh please! That’s how I’ve survived.

A chameleon who follows a lamb.
I’m the colour of my environment.
I didn’t move on I’m just numb.
From specious caressing in silence.
