At the Crossroads of the Heart

By: Naa Doodua Doodo

The deepest regret a heart may bear,
Is yielding to one we hold most dear.
A lifetime of pain, a wound so true,
A choice that haunts, forever anew.

Our choices shape the path we tread,
Fear and doubt cloud the thoughts in our heads.
Hasty decisions, born of haste,
Bring years of sorrow, a life misplaced.

When loved ones learn our deepest fears,
They hold the power to cut or cheer.
A double-edged blade, their knowledge wields,
To soothe our hearts or deepen our fields.

Should we conceal our truest selves,
Or bare our souls from hidden shelves?
The risk of pain, rejection’s sting,
Balanced with trust and the hope it brings.

The siren’s call of fleeting pleasure,
Can sway us from our truest treasure.
To resist, to stand, to choose the right,
Is the ultimate triumph of free will’s light.
