BEHIND THE POEM—A Poet's Manifesto

No one knows the beginning of a poet.

More than the paper and ink he uses.

Behind the poem is a wounded animal.

Writing to educate,

but few understand the emotion

behind each stroke.

Few write for fun.

Many write because they can’t voice their pain.

We never want to be seen.

Never sympathize with us.

But empathize with us.

Because there you will know.

We share in your pain.

Every stroke of our writing

has some story behind it.

To understand a poet

is to understand his pen and paper,

For there you will know his feelings.
