Glimpses of Glamour: A Ghanaian Prom Night Reimagined

The first time I learned of Prom Night, I was sort of confused about what it meant. I guess I am not truly up-to-date, but actually, the fact is, I never have been fascinated by school movies or related festivities. But whatever little I have learned over the last few years has impressed me with the massive work that is invested in it. I now understand that it is a transitional rite, representing the transition from one life stage to the next.

From my initial experience of Prom Night, I had a need to do some digging to uncover its nature, and what I uncovered was an oasis of opulence. I have observed various synopses from Western society, and the luxury vehicles that accompany such nights are indicative of the excess that is associated.
I recently saw an account of a Prom Night from a high-end Ghanaian school, and I was struck by the visual beauty; some of the scenes were so beautiful that all one could do was hope that all people would be able to enjoy such prosperity.
What I saw with my own eyes prompted me to consider the notion that indeed there is prosperity in the country, while it has traditionally been debated that there is a scarcity of monetary possibilities. The number and variety of cars that covered the ceremony, let alone the lovely appearances of the graduates, were quite amazing. However, I would like to mention two specific facts that particularly enchanted me.
The first was the fashion on display at the event. I should admit that the clothes were a fair representation of the seriousness of the event, and they depicted the need to plan meticulously and have the participation of parents in making children’s outfit decisions for this special occasion. Prom Night is reminiscent of an official dinner, and what I saw was a complete realization of the analogy.
Additionally, my keen eye did not fail to notice the beautiful decorations and arrangements at the venue. From the upscale red carpet to immaculately set dinner tables, every detail said so much about the efforts made at organizing the event. It also reflected the quality of leadership at the school.
